The Big Excitment

This weekend confirmed that Joel and I are officially old. Well, not old, but definitely adults and parents. Saint Joseph unveiled their new addition to the shoreline to draw visitors and we were actually excited to go see the ribbon cutting ceremony. The new attraction is a fountain shaped as a compass and has 8 freestanding cannons that shoot water a distance of 35 feet above 40 or so jets on the ground that shoot water vertically. There are also five different computerized light shows that accompany the fountain. It's pretty much perfect for entertaining kids of all ages and dogs of all sizes. Our favorite happy hour/pizza place is located immediately next to the fountain and we suspect it will also be perfect for entertaining for drunks of all kinds. I think what added to the excitement was that it appeared that the fountain hadn't yet be tested at all, so waiting to turn on the water for the first time there was great curiousity whether or not all the City's hard work would pay off.

Here are a few pics of the kids going crazy once the water was turned on and after we all went running from the backspray from the cannons. It was super fun to see all the kids enjoying the new fountain. Just in case you're curious, Konrad enjoyed himself from the sidelines, safely tucked away in his stroller or Mommy's and Daddy's arms. But don't be too disappointed, next summer I am certain we won't be able to walk past it without his putting up a fight to run and play in the water.

*Update* I thought I'd include a link or image of the fountain in all its glory so you can get an idea of the layout. Here is the best one I found. I had to laugh when I saw that the fountain is now closed until further notice. Too funny.
