6 States Down

I am late in posting about our vacation. We decided to take a long weekend and pack up the family for a visit to Minnesota to see Grannie Jennie and Poppa Mike. This adventure was Konrad's first requiring a car ride longer than 3 hours. Joel and I spent a week trying to figure out the best solution to get from St. Joe to Minneapolis with the least amount of crying (for K or us.) Turned out he had no intentions of creating a fuss, despite our well thought out plans on how to cope if he did.

We left Thursday morning at 3 am (yes, we're crazy) and K slept until Madison (roughly the halfway point.) After a feeding and diaper change we got back in the car and he was once again a little angel until we crossed the Mississippi, at which point he made it clear that he was now ready to get out of the car. Can't say I blamed him, as we were ready too. Luckily it was just another 20 minutes to our destination and he agreed to be calmed using traditional methods (read: Mommy's & Daddy's singing.)

While in Minneapolis we visited the Mall of America (see proof of our visit to Lego Land), went to Grannie Jennie's work, had a BBQ, met family and friends, visited Como Park and spent time at both Trader Joe's and Whole Foods (which meant I was in heaven!) Jennie and I even made an apple crisp, which is my favorite dessert, but I'd never attempted to make before.

While the trip was wonderful, we did hit a small bump along the way. Konrad came down with his first true virus, complete with a 102+ degree fever. Of course the only thing I didn't pack was the baby Tylenol. However, for those of you who may not be aware, Konrad's grandmother is an ER nurse, so we couldn't have been in a better place to experience our first fever. Not only did we learn the most convenient method by which to take an infant's temperature, we also learned all about administering suppositories. While the fever did hang around (though not nearly as high) until Monday, he mended very quickly and when we took him to visit the doctor on Tuesday he was given the all clear. By Thursday his congestion had cleared up.

All in all a wonderful, albeit short, trip. We can't wait to go back soon; especially Kinzie who says that the best dog parks in the entire world are all in Minneapolis!

  1. What nice pictures! I'm so glad you had a good visit. Long car rides can go either way. It looks like you had a fun time. I'm glad Jennie's a nurse and could help with the treatment and anxiety of the fever.

    Love you guys!
