So today was Konrad's two month well visit and first set of immunizations. I have to say that I was prepared for K to have a complete meltdown and never smile again once the shots were given. This could be in part because Joel spent the 15 minutes we were in the waiting area telling me to expect the worst and then providing a vivid description of just what exactly he thought "the worst" would be. "It will be worse than his loudest and angriest cries when he's starving. Just get ready. It's going to be terrible; you should just accept it now." Nice. I was nearly in tears in anticipation.
But, in the end it turned out that Joel's fear tactics weren't necessary. The nurse (who was amazingly quick, by the way) had all three injections done before the screams could even start and once they were going, they were cured within 10 seconds with a simple momma cuddle and bounce. End result? We had a smile again before we were even checked out. And he was back home and had his first dose of Infant Tylenol within 20 minutes. I haven't heard a complaint related to the shots since and he's also spent the better part of the afternoon napping away.
As for the rest of the visit, it went well. We were told he is happy and healthy and to keep doing what we're doing. As for stats, he came in at 24" long (Joel owes me a quarter. He thought K would measure at 25" or more.) This height puts him in the ninetieth percentile, while his weight (11 lbs. and 14 oz.) and head are in the fiftieth. If I understand what these numbers mean, he has officially inherited Joel's tall and skinny jeans as opposed to my short and squat jeans. Thank the Lord! Besides, it would have looked odd if K had my stature considering he looks just like his Daddy in every other way. Oh, except for the one gray hair that continues to hold on for dear life. That's the proof he took up residence in me for 9 months.
Tonight's big plans include a La Leche meeting for K and me, while Joel preps for Grandma and Grandpa F's visit this weekend. We are all super excited to see them! Especially Konrad. He's been practicing his sweetest smiles just for their visit. Joel and I would have practiced ours too, but we suspect that Grandma and Grandpa might not be as interested in ours this time around.

Well, I'm glad to hear that the shots went well. See, nothing to it! Renee was always in the 80's to 90's. Lauren started falling off the chart by the next visit. They are currently both right were they should be.
ReplyDeleteNow, where is my picture? Updates are great, but, I need my pictures!
Have a wonderful visit with Joel's folks! (I'm jealous.)
