Chunker!
I went to visit the lactation consultant today. It was a very informative and helpful meeting, the details of which I will spare anyone (and everyone) who is sick of hearing my nursing woes. But I do want to share the most interesting thing I learned, which is how much our "little" boy weighs. . . he is coming in at a hefty 11 lbs. and 3 oz. That was before he had his meal. Afterwards he weighed 11 lbs. 6.5 oz. It appears he is gaining a bit more than what they like to see . . .apparently we are going for 1 oz a day. When he was last weighed 14 days ago he weighed 10 lbs. on the nose. That equates to a 19 oz. gain in 14 days. Oops! I am told not to worry about it, but it is funny how big his belly is getting. Another exciting tidbit I learned is that the midnight, 1 am, 3 am, 5 am feeding crap he's been pulling the last couple days is, as a suspected, not a request for food, but a demand to be entertained. This means that in the next few days (read: this weekend) Joel and I will start practicing tough love. It's been recommended that when he cries the first time I offer him food and if he falls back asleep right away then we put him right back to bed. Then the next time he wakes up we go in and reassure him that we love him, but not pick him up (assuming we're confident it's not a hunger cry.) At some point we will likely try the 5/10/20 crying approach as well. If it can buy me even an extra 2 hours of sleep each night I will be in heaven! Here's hoping. In the meantime, here is a picture of our Buddha baby's belly:
